Love Italian Look To Your Home- Think Of Mario Bellini’s Designs

 

Mario Bellini is a very popular Italian architect, industrial and furniture designer who has reached great peaks in his designing career through his simple yet innovative designs. He was born on 1st February 1935 in Milan, Italy. He had a passion for designing and architecture eve during his school days. This keen interest in design prompted him to pursue a degree in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic - Faculty of Architecture in 1959. Soon, after he got his graduation degree, he started to work as an architect in the 60’s. He is very keen furniture, industrial and urban designer who also has done quite a few architectural designs in his career. He got due recognition as a designer very early in his career and it was the year 1963 that made him a global entity.  

Mario Bellini is known the world over as a designer and an architect. He was very popular as an Italian designer in the international market between the years 1955 and 1965. He started his career as a design director in a popular department store called La Rinascente in 1961 and worked there till 1963. He was then hired as a consultant of Olivetti Company. It was during his hay days in this company that he got a chance to create his own machine design language and created some of the most attractive teleprinters, typewriters, terminals and machine supports. He has also worked as a design consultant for Renault in the early 70s.  

Like his passion for machine design, Bellini also had a passion for designing furniture. His first furniture was the Ivrea plywood dining table in 1960. He started to slowly better his furniture design creativity and came out with Bruco sofa in 1965, Gatti stackable tables and Amanta sofa in 1966. In 1970, he came out with the Camaleonda sofa range and improved his design quality of sofa ranges with Le Mura and Le Bambole sofas in 1972. Some of the other popular furniture designed by Mario Bellini are: Le Piccole Tentazioni and Le Stelle sofa range, Pianeta Ufficio office furniture system, La Corte dining table, Duc, Clarence and 567 sofa ranges, La Basilica, La Rotonda, Il Colonnato dining tables, Break upholstered tub chair, Persona office chair, CAB armchair and stettee range, Lira e Liuto chairs, Bellini Chair, Arco Bellini outdoor stacking chair, Ypsilon office chair, Breakfast bed collection, Marilyn bed, Headline office chair, Chocolat upholstered bed, Suduko shelf, Stardust enlighten sofa, Pantheon dining table, oyster extendable table, Furniture on wheels ofr No Desing, Ki wood chair and many more.  

Some of the popular exhibitions where Mario Bellini works have been exhibited are: "The Renaissance from Brunelleschi to Michelangelo The Representation of Architecture" in 1994-95; "Christopher Dresser- A designer at the Court of Queen Victoria", Triennale, Milan, 2001; “Annisettanta. Il decennio lungo del secolo breve”, Triennale, 2007–2008, Installation for Exhibition Design ''La sindrome dell'influenza'', Triennale di Milano, Milan, Italy in 2013 and many more. He had also taught at the Domus Academy in Milan and at the College of Industrial Design in Venice, the Applied Art College in Vienna.
