Werner Aisslinger was born in Nordlingen in Germany in 1964. He had a passion for arts and architecture at a very young age and studied at the industrial design at the Hochschule der Künste (HdK) in Berlin. He is very much inspired by the modern age and he started his designing career as a freelancer at Jasper Morrison and Ron Arad in London between 1989 and 1992. He was interested in carrying out experimental artistic approach to design things and was inspired to do industrial design and architecture. It was in 1993 that he founded his own office called as the “studio aisslinger”, which is now a very popular office that design innovative and unique furniture and is well known for the aisslinger brand of architecture.  

Werner Aisslinger has also worked as a teacher at the Berlin University of Arts and Lahti Institute of Design, Finland from 1994 to 1997. It was his passion and love for modern and futuristic designs that led him to teaching the young and aspiring innovative designers all about the modern day art design. Later, he also worked as a teacher at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design from 1998 to 2005. He is one of the most popular modern day furniture designer who has a lot of awards in his collection for his stupendous artistic designs.   Werner Aisslinger’s 1996 designed ‘Juli Chair” for Cappellini, Italy was chosen to appear in the permanent collection of the popular MoMA Museum in New York in 1998 as well as was added to the chair collection at Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein in Germany. He became the first German architect whose chair design was chosen for the MoMA in New York since 1964. The other museums where his work has been exhibited in the permanent collection includes: the Museum Neue Sammlung in Munich, he Metropolitan Museum in New York and the French Fonds National d´Art Contemporain in Paris.  

Werner Aisslinger has been designing and developing furniture for leading Italian brands like: Zanotta, Cappellini, Magis and Porro. He has also designed the showroom concept for a Mercedes Benz flagship store in Frankfurt known as Mercedes Benz Spot, Germany and it includes virtual cars using the latest high-tech media technology. He has also designed the popular Soft Cell collection, a first of the kind gel furniture and presented it at the International Furniture fair in Milan.
