Sami Kallio (b. 1975) was born in Helsinki, Finland, and relocated to Gothenburg, Sweden, at the age of two. He finished the Swedish senior high school joiner program and examined fine art for two years, prior to embarking on a BA and MA in design at the Institution of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg. An exchange year at the Helsinki College of Arts, Design and Architecture in 2004 aided preserve the contact with his Finnish root systems. In Kallio's very own words, his work integrates the melancholy of the Finnish design heritage with the humor of the Swedish practice. In 2009, Kallio co-founded the Gothenburg-based furnishings manufacturer Brikolör. The business aims to create furniture with an ensured technological toughness of 300 years.
